Introducing Rock Steady Boxing!
RSB is a fantastic program that teaches people with Parkinson’s disease (PD) how to fight back and better manage their symptoms. With approximately 840 affiliate programs serving over 50,000 people with Parkinson’s disease, Rock Steady Boxing is a global leader in Parkinson’s exercise.
What Exactly is Rock Steady Boxing?
Rock Steady Boxing is an international non-profit that caters to the unique needs of the 60,000+ people who are diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease every year. We offer intensive training programs that focus on skills involved with non-contact boxing. Our unique protocols are highly effective and in ever-growing demand.
Our training is perfect for fitness coaches and easy to implement into your existing programs. We certify physical therapists, boxing coaches, rehab facilities, and other fitness and medical professionals who are excited about teaching Rock Steady Method classes in their communities.
Physical Benefits of Rock Steady Boxing
As a Rock Steady Boxing affiliate owner and fitness coach, you can help your clients develop and refine their exercise routines to help them better manage the symptoms of Parkinson’s. Depending on the individual needs of your clients, you may also lead group classes in yoga, Tai chi, or dance to optimize results.
Parkinson’s disease is a neurological condition that typically causes tremors, slow movement, muscular weakness and atrophy, muscular rigidity, and imbalanced gait. People that are diagnosed with Parkinson’s will often experience problems performing daily activities like walking, getting in a vehicle, taking a shower, or cooking dinner.
Some of the many physical and mental benefits of Rock Steady Boxing training that are particularly helpful to those with PD include:
- Increased range of motion
- Increased joy and satisfaction in life
- Increased confidence and decreased fear of falling
- Gentle stretching and loosening of muscles to reduce rigidity
- Increased muscular strength and resistance to future injuries
- Mindfulness training about posture and movement that encourages proper mobility
RSB exercises are primarily based on boxing drills. Professional boxers spend time conditioning for optimal speed, strength, agility, accuracy, coordination, balance, rhythm, and attentive defense. At RSB, Parkinson’s disease is the opponent in the ring, and our program is designed to challenge the abilities of every participant, encouraging the development of confidence and skills alike.
When you help people with Parkinson’s learn the Rock Steady Method, you empower them to live richer lives and gain a better sense of control.
Is RSB Suitable for My Athletes?
We understand that as a fitness coach, your duties and responsibilities are to work one-on-one and in group settings with clients to determine their specific goals and needs. When you receive certification in the Rock Steady Method, you’ll be better prepared to offer your clients superior exercise programs to live happier, healthier, and more independent lives. And that is a fantastic feeling!
You’ll learn specific fitness techniques and methodologies that are highly relevant and applicable to people with Parkinson’s. You’ll also benefit from increased exposure to your practice, fresh marketing perspectives, greater reviews from appreciative clients, and an excellent new source of clientele to enjoy helping live better.
Why Rock Steady Boxing?
Rock Steady Boxing was founded as a labor of love with a genuine interest in helping people with Parkinson’s disease. Scott C. Newman founded RSB in 2006 with the help of former Golden Gloves boxer Vince Perez after Scott was diagnosed with Parkinson’s at the age of 40. Scott was determined not to allow PD to overtake his life and developed the Rock Steady Boxing program accordingly.
Today, RSB is a thriving 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization. Our mission is to empower and equip our affiliates, fitness coaches, physical therapists, and other health and wellness professionals to genuinely help people with PD improve their quality of life through regular exercise.
Our protocols are very well-suited for those who have been newly diagnosed and those who have lived with Parkinson’s for years. We care about helping people through all stages of this complex neurological condition. We believe that Rock Steady Boxing is the world’s best program for PD exercise.
